Why can’t I set my monitor into a higher resolution?
You may wonder, why can’t you setup your display settings into a higher resolution? Primarily, I could only think of two scenarios, but of course, there might be other possible situations. First is, maybe your monitor can only support upto that resolution. Even if you have the latest and most powerful video card engine, your monitor is still limited to a maximum resolution.
Another reason maybe is your video card. It may only be able to support low resolution, it may not be functioning properly, or you haven’t installed the driver for your video adapter just yet. For the first two reasons, the only thing to do is buy a more powerful video card engine. For the third reason, even if you do have the best video card, not installing its driver won’t make it work properly. Especially for newly installed systems, you would be limited adjusting your screen resolution to a certain range, but after installing the drivers, there would be a wider range of available resolutions.
Using Two Monitors at the Same Time
Is one monitor not enough? You may use two monitors at the same time for a single computer. Commonly done on a laptop because of its extra VGA or DVI port, you may connect another monitor to it. You may choose either to display the same thing at both monitor, or use extended display option where you may put other open application windows into the other monitor so you could see them all.
I normally do this when watching a DVD movie. Of course, I would like to watch in full screen, but what if there are other things to do or expecting some important instant messages. I use one monitor for the movie, and the other for the other applications. Cool isn’t it? To setup two monitors, first of all, you would need two ports to connect your monitor, a DVI and a VGA, or even a S-Video port to connect a TV as the second monitor. Then configure display configurations of your computer where there would be an option on how the display would be distributed. Enjoy.

Two Monitors at a Time
Even how high the resolution of your monitor is, it seems that it is not enough especially for persons who are used to multi-tasking. A single monitor won’t be enough to display a lot of open documents that the user wants to be displayed at the same in the screen.
A way to address this problem is by connecting two monitors in your computer and extending the display to the second monitor. This would have different displays for the two monitors, one would be the main desktop, where the other is an extended display of your desktop. I usually do this when I watch a movie while doing something else. Media player would play full screen on one display, and I could still see the other documents I’m working at in the other display. Talk about multi-tasking.
