Acer AL2032W and AL2416W Widescreen Displays
Engadget has a quick look and summary up of two Acer widescreen LCD’s. The look alright in specs, with a good response rate and contrast rate. I would be interested in seeing them with my own eyes to see if they are quality or crap.
Targeting gamers and designers alike (along with anyone else who has room on their desk and money in their pocket for a widescreen display), Acer is rolling out two LCD displays with high contrast ratios and rapid response rates. The 20-inch AL2032W has an 800:1 contrast ratio and an 8ms response rate, while the 24-inch AL2416W boasts a 1000:1 contrast ratio and 6ms response rate. The new models will be available in Taiwan next month, Europe later this year, and the US, you know, whenever they feel like it. The AL2032W is expected to go for about $540, while the AL2416W is expected to retail for about $870.

I just purchased the AL2032W monitor… while it is a nice size, Windows XP does not support it’s native resolution of 1680×1050. I’ve even downloaded the driver from Acers website and still no joy.

Hi,
Juat to let you Know that I have the AL2032W and Windows Xp has nothing to do with what resoloutions work. It is all down to your graphics card. Mines a Pci Express 6600Gt runs 1680*1050 perfectly. In my opinion this monitor is stunning.

Hi guys!
Im very happy, than I find some opinion about AL2032W. I want to purchase this monitor but anybody know information about this LCD monitor. My dealer is sick when I put some technical or practical questions and all my friends have classsical CRT or mat LCD but LCD with shine surface dont look anybody. My question is very simple. Is the picture realy fantastic? Do you have compare this with others? I find wide LCD screen because I work with video and typical 4:3 screen is too small for me. Is AL2032W the right choice? Im very serious user because I hate the compromises.
Thx
ps: Sorry my English is still horible

If you can get this monitor, go for it. Having such a fast response time and keeping a high contrast ratio for LCD’s is very difficult. The widescreen is nice as depending on how close you have it to you, it will take up your field of view, making it feel more like you are just looking at your screen.
Is it the right choice for you? You’d really have to see some monitors by Acer before deciding that. If you know of a store where you can pick this up, go and have them turn it on and show you a video before buying. But the specs say “Good Monitor”.
