Gateway FPD2185W 21-inch Widescreen Monitor

Extreme Tech looks at the Gateway FPD2185W, and from the name I am sure it was easy to guess that this is a 21 inch widescreen LCD monitor.

Along comes Gateway, with a less pricey but no less functional display with their new FPD2185W. The 2185W is a bit smaller than the Dell, at 21-inches diagonal, and offers a bit less resolution, at 1680×1050 pixels. It also costs less, at $599 direct in the U.S. (and Gateway is currently offering free shipping to boot.)

One of the main highlights of the start of the article and something that people thinking about future-proofing their computers might want to consider is the fact that this monitor, unlike many others, offers HDCP content protection over its DVI connection, which means you can play HD-DVD or Blu-Ray content that has been protected from being played on a monitor that does not have such support.

In the end the monitor earned itself a strong 9 out of a possible 10 on their rating scale, so if you have $599 to spend on a LCD, and are thinking you will be using the monitor for years to come, you might want to get this one, and don’t forget, it’s widescreen too!
